The BabelStone Ogham keyboard layout facilitates the entering of Ogham text in Windows.
- Download Ogham.zip.
- Unzip Ogham.zip to a temporary folder.
- Double-click on the file setup.exe in the extracted Ogham folder, and follow the instructions.
If you are running Vista the keyboard layout will be installed and ready to use under the OL ("Other Languages") icon of the language bar. If you have installed multiple BabelStone keyboard layouts then you will need to select the particular layout to use by clicking the keyboard icon next to OL.
If you are running Windows 2000 or XP you will need to map the keyboard layout to an unused input locale from Control Panel : Regional Option before you can use it.
Please note that this keyboard layout cannot be installed or run under Windows 95, 98 or ME.
Keyboard Mapping for Ogham Keyboard Layout
My Ogham keyboard layout conforms to the Ogham keyboard defined in Irish Standard 434:1999 ("Information Technology – 8-bit Single-byte Graphic Coded Character Set For Ogham").
The keyboard layout is exactly the same as the Microsoft Windows English (Ireland) keyboard layout when the Caps Lock key is not activated. However, when the Caps Lock key is activated typing any of the twenty-six letters a..z will output an Ogham letter, typing grave or shift grave will output a Feather Mark or reversed Feather Mark respectively, and typing hash or shift hash (UK/Irish keyboard) or backslash or shift backslash (US keyboard) will output an Ogham Space. All other keys will behave as if the Caps Lock key was not activated (e.g. typing 7 with the Caps Lock key activated will output 7 rather than &).
The key strokes needed to produce a given Ogham letter or punctuation mark when the Caps Lock key is activated are shown in the table below.
